What is Thai Yoga Bodywork? Based on the northern style of traditional Thai Massage (Nuad Boran), Thai Yoga Bodywork is a sacred healing treatment that integrates Yoga, Ayurveda (the Indian healing method that means "science of life"), and Buddhism. The first roots of this ancient system date back to over 2,500 years ago at the time of Buddha. Unique from other types of bodywork and massage, Thai Yoga Bodywork is also a form of Yoga Therapy that combines rhythmic massage, assisted Yoga poses, acupressure along energy meridians know as the "Sen," healing energy work, and meditation. How Does Thai Yoga Bodywork Work? The theoretical foundation of Thai Yoga Bodywork lies in the concept that all of life at its most basic level is energy. This energy, called Prana in Sanskrit (Chi in Chinese), exists in many forms from the extremely gross to the infinitely subtle. Within the human body these energies flow along a network of channels or lines (nadis or meridians). In the Yoga tradition there are said to be 72,000 nadis. Each has a specific function and energy that it deals with. The three main lines energetically are the Sushumna (rising straight up through the center of the spine) and the Ida and Pingala nadis which weave their way upwards on either side of the spine and intersect at each chakra. Health in eastern philosophies is regarded as a state of balance between these energies, where all the systems of the body, including mind and spirit, function in harmony with each other. Disease is seen as imbalance or disharmony in this flow of energies. Thai Yoga Bodywork aims at stimulating the flow of healing energies within the body, opening the areas which are blocked and bringing the body, mind and spirit back into balance and harmony.
What are the Laws for Licensure to Practice Bodywork/Massage? Will this program help me be a licensed bodyworker? Again, as Thai Yoga Bodywork or Thai Massage isn't regulated by any overseeing body, you will have to check with your state and/or city to see what the laws are for people practicing bodywork on paying customers. Becoming a member of the Thai Alliance (THAI) is voluntary yet recommended to help acknowledge your credentials and training. You may also contact Bob from THAI if you have questions as he has much experience in this issue. |
