These classes introduce you to the poses of the flowing and heat building style of yoga called "Vinyasa Flow," inspired by the Ashtanga Primary Series. Learn ujjaji pranayama breathwork, bandhas (energetic locks to help access core strength), drishti (gazing points), and vinyasa (sequencing breath with movement). Ashtanga is the building block of Vinyasa Flow yoga, and learning aspects of the full Primary Series will help students feel comfortable in just about any class after completing both levels (many students repeat the 2 levels several times until they get the flexibility, strength and confidence to move on however). Breathe, stretch, and sweat! Learn basic to intermediate poses and concepts on how to forward fold properly to help open tight hamstrings, shoulders and upper back. This is a great class to take if you are trying to build a home practice as you will learn a set sequence of poses.
Prerequisite: None. For beginners or anyone wishing to deepen their existing yoga practice.
Class Limit: 25 people

What you will learn:
• Two styles of Sun Salutations/warm-ups
• Standing poses like Triangle and Warrior. Seated poses like Forward Fold and Tortoise. Prep poses for inversions like Headstand and Shoulderstand
• Breathwork, relaxation & meditation techniques
• The benefits of a integrating a yoga practice into your daily life both on and off the mat

The Result:
• Feel better, breathe easier, and shape up
• Gain confidence in your yoga practice
• Prepare the body for intermediate yoga classes
• Learn to begin to safely practice a simple yoga sequence on your own
• Gain a deeper understanding of the connection between the mind, body, and spirit
• Jump-start your Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga practice!

Ashtanga yoga, founded by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, is the building block behind many Vinyasa Flow classes today. It is distinct in that the postures or asanas are connected to one another by a flowing series of movements called vinyasa. This powerful and vigorous practice purifies and realigns the body clearing energy channels blocked by years of stress and arouses the internal fire helping to cleanse, detoxify and strengthen the body. The synchronization of movements with breath awakens the mind-body-soul connection establishing consistent states of balance, inner peace, and well-being.
